Dear Marketer , CMO , Sales , Head of sales …
We serve you not the other way around.
First let’s go back to the basics, whos is the product owner, what is that job exactly ?
let’s google it:
1- The Scrum product owner is typically a project’s key stakeholder
2-Serves as a connector between the house and the outside world
3-Supports the development team by prioritizing the product backlog and creating user stories
4-Responsible for communicating with stakeholders across the board
5-Product Owner role is to represent the customer to the development team.
6-Responsible for the project’s outcome
Ok good ! so the one gets the donuts, the one who wears all the hats …. and all the above, means he has a daily active communication with all stakeholders.
Now, when a product owner talks to a CMO for example :
PO ( product owner ) : Hi
CMO ( Chief Marketing op) : Hi
PO: What can i do for you ?
Yes Sir , the product owner does things for you , so YOU can achieve your work, your plan, your KPIs.
It is NOT your job to help the product do his KPIs, his tasks.
So , From now on you
Communicate the problem statement that blocks your work instead of giving you opinion on a designed icon.
Communicate your definition of success for a scenario instead of sending a userflow of a new feature.
Communicate you customer’s complaint with customer key events and timing instead of sending a planning and review about sprints, devs tasks and prio
